ICESTOCK

Yesterday, New Year's eve, there was the annual Icestock festival here in McMurdo. Bands played from 6:30pm until 12:30am outside under the gleaming sun. The bands and the crowd were great. Everyone danced, partly because of the music and partly to stay warm. The weather here has been great, but yesterday there was a strong cold breeze in the air. Warmth was not far away though; the stage was set up close to buildings making it easy to slip inside every now and then. The bands played a lot of cover music and the familiar tunes got everyone singing. At one point a few people came out in huge costumes and danced around. It was a memorable New Year's eve party.

  1. I would never have dreamed people would be wearing funny costumes like those outside in Antarctica! Crazy! It's blowing my mind!
